Marketing discussion Part 1

If you want to succeed, you will need to be great at marketing.

Part of my success has been a study of the great marketers. I know that the way to make profit is to market yourself well, and then you can help others. How did you find this blog anyway?

Because Marketing is so important, I intend to run a Marketing series right here on the Blog, until I roll out my next website that I am creating as we speak called SalesMarketingProfit.com

Lets get started:

I will start with direct marketing and specifically, why direct mail is still one of the best value there is to reach your customers and prospects.

Simply - Advertising in newspapers and magazines, radio, TV and Outdoor has a cost factor problem, and an even greater concern - waste.

This advertising means you're paying for distribution outside your market area, copies that never reach your target prospect and circulation to recipients who are just not the slightest bit interested in your offering.

A very controlled targeted process of direct mail advertising would benefit most business, or sales person.

Highly important is having the right list.

Note: (If you would like to be on my J-Six Solutions VIP subscriber "list" - make sure you subscribe) that was some "list" marketing by the way!

To target specific prospects ensures those prospects will maximise the success of the whole process.

Your list will ultimately contribute 20% to 60% of the overall effectiveness of direct marketing. Needless to say, do not under any circumstances go with the cheapest or least credible list broker!

Start building a list of prospects who have an existent interest in what you have to offer as well as similar traits of your best current clients.

Consider age, sex, occupation, income level, neighborhood or geographic area, credit card ownership, family size, magazine subscribed to, or any number of other demographics. These factors are called demographics.

You can either buy a list or build your own. The most important thing is to realise your list is the single best success factor available to you. If you do not have a list - start building it today!

When renting a mailing list compile a mailing list of people who match your set of desired demographics.

Lists can be obtained by requesting size, sales volume, asset value, number of employees, type of business, geographic area, magazines subscribed to, credit rating and other factors. Lists of executives, owners, sales managers, CEO's, personnel managers, purchasing agents, marketers, stockholders, or secretaries are easy to obtain.

List selection can be tailored to very specific criteria.

A business consultant might want the list of training officers and business owners with net worth's in excess of a two million dollars all across the state.

Generally, the more demographic factors you specify, the dearer the list. Also, extra investment spent in reducing down the list to fit your desired factors is money better invested.

Locating list brokers and sources in your own area is done by looking in the yellow pages under: mailing lists, mailing services and advertising consultants.

In Australia, the organisation to checkout is called ADMA - The Australian Direct Marketing Association. Each Country will have an organistation you can look up. Also - check out trade publications.

Everyone, and we mean everyone should assemble their own mailing lists. Starting with an up-to-date mailing list of all your customers and clients. Direct mail to this list can stimulate additional business, introduce new products and services or promote sales or special offers.

What can you offer as an incentive to start building your list? I enjoy hundreds of new subscribers each month with the incentives I provide at no real cost to me other than my time and effort in making the offer in the first place.

Do you have a product or service you could offer as an incentive to get an opt in list started? Try thinking a free report, a discount first service, a free first chapter etc....
